Molly McCann releases statement in wake of UFC 304 defeat
It might be a little time before we see ‘Meatball’ Molly McCann in the cage again.
Liverpudlian McCann, 34, was defeated by unanimous decision in last Saturday night’s UFC 3o4 in Manchester in a fight that consigned her to her third defeat in her last four fights, and her first since dropping to strawweight in February of this year.
However, McCann found herself fighting on the back foot early after being damaged by a body strike and couldn’t claw her way back into the fight before the 15 minutes of cage time elapsed.
Late on Sunday, McCann took to Instagram to post a collection of images of her smiling and enjoying the company of Brasil and announced that she would be stepping away from mixed martial arts for “a bit of time.”
“Last night was Bruna’s night!” McCann wrote.
“Massive congratulations to her. I wasn’t able to recover after that knee the firm. Few broken bones and some heavy bruises, sh*t night in the office for me but it is what it is. Hope you all enjoyed a great night of fights. Thank you to all UFC/ UFC PI staff for the care and love. We live to fight another day. I’m gonna be taking a bit of time off for me mental and physical state. Much love the firm!”
Since making her debut in the UFC in March 2018 McCann, a former Cage Warriors flyweight champion, has posted a record of 7 wins and 6 losses.
