Georges St-Pierre was incredibly nervous to compete in the UFC

With formidable grappling skills, precise strikes and both welterweight and middleweight championship belts on his mantelpiece, Georges St-Pierre has carved out an incredible legacy.

Blessed with remarkable intelligence inside the cage, the gifted sportsman was able to come up with the perfect game plans to outsmart his opponents.

However, his IQ served as a double-edged sword. While it undeniably helped from a tactical perspective, it forced him to overthink.

On fight day, GSP would be nothing short of terrified, worrying over every single possibility of what could go wrong.

But ultimately, while the risk was huge, the reward was greater, and thus, St-Pierre put his fears to one side in pursuit of greatness.

On an episode of ‘This Past Weekend‘, with Theo Von, ‘Rush’ said: “I’ll be honest with you 100%. I never liked to fight. I love the sport, I love the science of it, I like the camaraderie I have with my friends in training camp where it’s like you’re going to war.

“I despise fight day. It’s unbearable for me, extremely uncomfortable. Not knowing if I will be hurt, humiliated, or winning the ultimate prize is unbearable for me. It’s very hard to deal with, but it’s the price you have to pay if you want to achieve freedom.”
