Real Madrid Registers New Player On Eve Of La Liga Debut
Real Madrid has registered a new player with La Liga on the eve of its 2024/2025 season debut away at Mallorca on Sunday.
Los Blancos are La Liga’s defending champions after winning the title last term, as a record-extending 36th Spanish top flight crown accompanied the domestic Super Cup and an unprecedented 15th Champions League.
Carlo Ancelotti pulled off a treble against all odds, considering that he lacked arguably the world’s best goalkepeer in Thibaut Courtois plus top level center backs Eder Militao and David Alaba for most of the campaign.
While Courtois pulled up in training approaching Matchday 1 against Athletic Club in August 2023, Militao made it to said fixture but suffered an identical fate by also rupturing his ACL during the match against the Basques.
The fact that Alaba similarly sustained the same knock led many to conclude that Ancelotti and his men might be cursed.
Even still, Madrid demonstrated its classic winning mentality by continuing to grind out results as some players like the now-retired Toni Kroos put on what many thought were their best ever seasons in a white shirt.
With Madrid about to contest seven competitions this term, however, as only two key signings were made in Kylian Mbappe and Endrick being brought to the Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, Ancelotti doesn’t want to take any risks this time round.
This is why central defender Jacobo Ramon has been registered with the league 48 hours before an away meeting with Mallorca in Son Moix, as Alaba still isn’t expected to return until October or the beginning of November at the earliest.
Given that Eduardo Camavinga suffered a ligament sprain in his left knee in training, and is predicted to be out for six to seven weeks, Aurelien Tchouameni won’t always be able to provide back up in central defense as seen regularly in 2023/2024.
For the UEFA Super Cup final which Madrid won 2-0 against Atalanta, the Frenchman formed a defensive midfield pairing with Fede Valverde and is currently the only natural pivot Ancelotti has at his disposal.
Antonio Rudiger, Militao and Jesus Vallejo are the sole centre-backs the Italian has to choose from as well, which is where Ramon, who was taken to Warsaw for the Super Cup and the preseason tour of the United States, comes in.
As a Euros U-19 winner with Spain, Ramon is one of the most highly-rated young defenders to come out Madrid’s famed La Fabrica academy in recent times and could get chances to prove himself in the elite.
