  • Rock and roll legend Elvis Presley has resurfaced on the Bitcoin blockchain
  • Presley has been turned into a Bitcoin NFT
  • Dubbed “Elvis Side $Btc,” the NFT collection has 1,935 collectibles

Elvis Presley, a rock and roll singer between 1953 and 1977, has found a new life on the Bitcoin blockchain as an NFT. The collection was created by Royalty, an intellectual property platform, and OrdinalsBot, a platform that helps entities inscribe data on the Bitcoin blockchain. Known as the “Elvis Side $Btc” collection, it has 1,935 collectibles made up of generative images, enabling rock and roll fans to own a digital version of the legend.

Protecting Presley’s Digital Legacy

Collectibles in the collection feature generative artworks by Joe Petruccio, an artist endorsed by the singer’s estate. 5% of the fees charged when trading Elvis Side $Btc collectibles on the secondary market will go to the Elvis Presley Legacy Council.

The council is a DAO seeking to protect the rock and roll legend’s digital legacy. However, this isn’t the first time the Elvis Presley Estate is trying to immortalize the singer. Last year, for example, The Sandbox announced a licensed Polygon-based NFT collection featuring Presley-inspired avatars.

According to The Sandbox, the collection had 3,000 avatars with distinguishing features like hairstyles and attire. The collection’s holders were promised a seat at the Elvis Legacy Council DAO.

Presley Isn’t the First to Ressurect on the Blockchain

Royalty has promised to release more details about the Bitcoin collection in the coming days. This isn’t the first time a music legend is finding a new life on the blockchain. Legendary British port artist, David Bowie, for example, was resurrected on the blockchain through an NFT collection known as “Bowie on the Blockchain.”

The Bowie collection was created by NFT marketplace Opensea in partnership with the artist’s estate. Other celebrities that have re-emerged on the blockchain after their death include Biggie Smalls and Whitney Houston.

With Bitcoin NFTs gaining popularity, it’s to be seen whether the “King of Rock and Roll” will thrill the Bitcoin NFT community.
