Halloween is next week, so you should get in the mood for it by playing some spooky games. Thankfully, several horror titles came to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog this month. From horror classics for the PS1 and PS2 to newer games with more modern storytelling and choose-your-own-adventure sensibilities, PS Plus subscribers will have a lot to choose from when they’re looking for something to play this weekend. These are three newer highlights that fit that bill.
Dino Crisis

While Resident Evil is Capcom’s flagship survival horror game series, it’s not the only one they’ve ever had. There was also Dino Crisis, a horror game that swaps out the zombies for dinosaurs. While this series ended after three games and faded into obscurity, Capcom is finally acknowledging it again with a PS Plus re-release of the first game. I’m happy it did this, as the game is worth revisiting in 2024. If you can get used to its dated tank controls and menu design, you have a really solid and surprisingly cinematic retro horror game that deserves more love than it gets. If you’ve never tried Dino Crisis before, this Halloween gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. Dino Crisis is available on PS4 and PS5 as part of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog.
Siren
Siren – Gameplay Video 1 | PS2 on PS4
Siren is a creepy horror game that takes a lot of bold swings. Narratively, it tells its story nonlinearly across 10 characters and three days. Much of the gameplay is centered around a mechanic called sightjacking, which lets players essentially possess enemies to hear and see what they do. It’s a good primer for Slitterhead, a new game from Siren’s director that’s out next month. Siren was already technically part of the PS Plus Premium catalog, but Sony has updated its PS2 emulator to add new features like gameplay rewinding and quick saves. It is now updating previously released PS2 games to support it, with Siren being the first. Hopefully, more will follow suit. Siren is available on PS4 and PS5 with a PS Plus Premium subscription.

Did you check out Sony’s Until Dawn remake that dropped earlier this month? While that didn’t come to PS Plus this month, another choice-driven horror game from developer Supermassive Games did. The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me follows a documentary crew who visits a remote island to check out a replica of H.H. Holmes’ “Murder Castle.” Of course, things go wrong, and the crew members start being hunted down. Depending on the player’s choices, these characters can live or die. It doesn’t radically reinvent the narrative horror adventure formula Supermassive spearheaded, but it’s still an enjoy take on the genre with a plot grounded in the actions of a real-world serial killer. 3 new PS Plus games you need to play this weekend (August 23-25)
This week, we received our monthly batch of new additions to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog. It’s a great group of games that includes a fantastic RPG, underrated gems, Sword Art Online games, and some PS2 TimeSplitters games getting rereleased for the first time. If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, that means there are plenty of new games to choose from, but I specifically want to highlight three worthwhile games that just came to the service. They can all maintain your attention for more than just a weekend too.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
CD Projekt Red’s crowning achievement needs little introduction. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best RPGs ever made, thanks to its fantastic world-building, writing, and characters. Geralt of Rivia is now one of gaming’s most iconic protagonists, and this RPG also put book characters Ciri and Yennefer in a central role for the first time. It features some of the best sidequests in an RPG too, as most of them are given the same care as the main questline. We’re over nine years out from its original release, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still holds up. If you somehow haven’t played it yet, you need to this weekend. The PS4 and PS5 versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are now part of the PS Plus Extra Game Catalog. It’s also available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

3 new PS Plus games you should play this weekend (August 16-18)
More games will be added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog in less than a week, so now is the best time to catch up on some July additions you might have missed. Last month was a surprisingly strong one for the service, as it got plenty of compelling additions across all fronts. While additions like Remnant II and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion garnered the most attention as the highest-profile releases, several games that are more underrated than those slipped into PS Plus’ game catalog at the same time. As such, I’m recommending three of those games to people looking for something to play on PS Plus this weekend.
No More Heroes 3
No More Heroes 3 is a ridiculous game from eccentric game developer Suda51 and his development studio Grasshopper Manufacture. It’s an entertaining action game with hilarious writing and an enjoyable story about Travis Touchdown working his way up the Galactic Superhero Rankings to take on an alien prince named FU. What really gives the No More Heroes games their distinct flair is the fact that they aren’t afraid to get meta. No More Heroes 3 will constantly call out the player directly and will sometimes even change up its gameplay, so it’s better that I don’t spoil that much and just recommend that you go and check this one out for yourself. No More Heroes 3 is available on PS4 and PS5 through the PS Plus Premium and Extra Game Catalog. It’s also on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

3 underrated PS Plus games to check out this weekend (June 28-30)
Some games don’t get the love they deserve when they come out. Maybe it’s because they launched during a crowded time of year, weren’t in a mainstream genre, or had negative public perception as they headed toward release. These games become underrated cult classics and can gain new life and attention on subscription services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, where players have more control over which games they play, how long they want to play them, and how much money they want to spend on them.
That’s why I looked to these underrated games when determining what PS Plus Premium and Extra game catalog games to recommend this weekend. One is an exhilarating shoot ’em up platformer hybrid from the developers of Returnal. Another is the Marvel strategy game and RPG from the studio that makes series like Sid Meier’s Civilization and XCOM. Finally, we have an enjoyable LittleBigPlanet spinoff that seemed like it flew under the radar more than every other PlayStation 5 launch title.
