OVER THE PAST few years, showrunner Taylor Sheridan has cemented himself as the driving force of Paramount+’s success as a streaming service.
His 2018 series, Yellowstone, became a massive hit, leading to two prequel shows centered on earlier iterations of the Dutton family: 1883 and 1923. Outside of Sheridan’s Western universe, he’s also crafted crime programs like Mayor of Kingstown starring Jeremy Renner and Tulsa King, which served as Sylvester Stallone’s first leading role in a television series. Because of this, Sheridan has built a devout following of viewers by relying on a similar structure of star-studded casts and themes of greed.
His most recent series, Landman, debuted in November 2024 and garnered 14.6 million viewers in its first week, according to the streaming platform and Variety. Inspired by a documentary podcast called Boomtown, the show centers around the modern-day oil industry in West Texas. Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) is a crisis manager for the oil company M-Tex, sent on behalf of his CEO boss, Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), to ensure the work is going according to plan—and it’s not an easy job.
“I think if you’re in that world, it’s a dangerous business. You understand the risk involved. My character obviously came up doing more menial jobs in this,” Thornton told Deadline. “There’s always a problem to solve because he is a fixer really. You develop an obsession with being successful.”
Given the show’s immense popularity, fans might be wondering how soon they’ll be able to see Tommy continue to climb the ranks of the oil industry, as well as the fates of other characters.

Will Landman return for Season 2?
While the series has continued to provide record numbers for the streaming service, there was a possibility that it might be difficult to bring the cast of very famous faces back together. However, Landman will be returning for a second season, as Demi Moore (who plays Monty’s wife, Cami) confirmed the news.
“I thought we looked really good,” Moore told Deadline in May 2024. “[Jon Hamm] was lovely and I’ve known Billy Bob Thornton for a long time. I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year.”
What will Landman’s Season 2 be about?
Landman’s penultimate episode of saeason 1 found Monty still recovering in the hospital, as he struggled with his health. Ahead of the finale, there were hints that Monty passed away off-screen after Tommy gets a call from Cami and witnesses his neighbor shoot a coyote—potentially hinting at his future of taking over M-Tex. He was offered an executive role, given his boss was in the hospital. However, Monty also appointed lawyer Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) as the VP of Exploration, and she remains at odds with Tommy.
Tommy is also still navigating extremely high tensions with the cartel. In episode 8, the cartel’s vehicle was blown up accidentally by the Texas National Guard, and they’ll likely be looking for revenge.
Meanwhile, Tommy’s son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) also wants to get rich off of the oil business, simply to move to Fort Worth with Ariana (Paulina Chávez), a plotline that will likely play a bigger role in the second season. Outside of oil tensions, Monty’s ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter) and their daughter Aynsley (Michelle Randolph) plan to bring some nursing home residents to a strip club.
When will Season 2 of Landman come out?
Based on Moore’s interview, the cast should begin filming season 2 sometime in the next few weeks (though Moore’s own schedule may have shifted a bit with The Substance, which she leads and has been getting much acclaim for, in the midst of an Oscar race). There isn’t a clear release date right now, but it could follow a similar pattern to season 1, which was filmed in February 2024—so Landman’s second season would premiere at the end of 2025.
