Pittman’s Pocket: Alabama State’s Eddie Robinson Jr. Attends First Hula Bowl, Celebrates HBCU Talent
Looking on from the 35-yard line of Team Kai, Alabama State Head Coach Eddie Robinson Jr. stood proudly as his player, James Burgess, showcased an outstanding performance in the 2025 Hula Bowl held in Orlando, Florida. This marked the 4th-year head coach’s first appearance at the prestigious game, where Team Kai triumphed over Team Aina with a 10-3 victory.
Burgess, who represented Alabama State, made an impactful contribution with 3 tackles and 3 pass deflections, proving his skills on a national stage.
Coach Robinson expressed his admiration for the Hula Bowl’s staff and scouts, noting the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved. He also highlighted his hope to see more HBCU coaches and players participating in future Hula Bowl games, underscoring the importance of showcasing talent from historically Black colleges and universities.
As Robinson looks to the future, his remarks signal a desire for greater inclusivity and visibility for HBCU programs in major collegiate events like the Hula Bowl.
