Chris Paul and Giannis Antetokounmpo were ready to fight after NBA’s most mismatched beef
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Chris Paul are each legendary talents from differential generations. The two superstars have crossed paths many times, including in the 2021 NBA Finals when Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks erased a 2-0 series lead by Paul’s Phoenix Suns to win the championship. Giannis put together one of the greatest performances in NBA Finals history during that series, and it kept Paul ringless for his career.
Paul is now on the San Antonio Spurs to help guide the development of Victor Wembanyama, and though he will turn 40 years old in May, CP3 is still playing at a high level. The Bucks-Spurs game on Friday night was built up as showdown of the NBA’s superstar of the present (Giannis) vs. its superstar of the future (Wemby), but somehow Paul again stole headlines with his actions on the court.
Antetokounmpo and Paul started jawing at each other on the court after Giannis believed CP3 shoved him to the ground near the end of the fourth quarter. Paul proceeded to mock Antetokounmpo at the free throw line, and two players continued to exchange words after the game, with Giannis telling the veteran to “come see me.”
Antetokounmpo is just about the biggest and strongest player in the league. Paul is one of the smallest players in the NBA, and the second oldest behind LeBron James. Watch their beef play here:

Here’s another look at the play Giannis got so mad about. Note the time and the score: the Spurs are up 20 points with under four minutes left. The game is all but over, but Antetokounmpo and Paul still have the competitive juices flowing.
Did CP3 really push Giannis here?

When Giannis missed his first free throw, Paul immediately walked up to him and did the practice shooting motion that the Bucks star repeats after every missed attempt at the line. CP3 was needling Antetokounmpo, and Giannis didn’t appreciate it.
As the teams headed back to their benches, you could see Giannis challenge Paul by telling him to meet him after the game. It continued after the final whistle blew on the Spurs win.
Antetokounmpo was still heated in the post-game locker room. Here’s what he told reporters about why he hung around on the court after the final buzzer to challenge Paul.
There’s a history of dirty plays on both sides here. It’s been more than 10 years since Giannis body checked Mike Dunleavy Jr. during a playoff game, but people haven’t forgotten about it. Paul has been accused of dirty plays since college (word to Julius Hodge), and there are so many examples in the NBA of borderline dirty plays.
More than anything, Antetokounmpo and Paul are historic competitors looking for every edge on their opponent. Paul and Wemby got the last laugh this time, but something tells me the beef between CP3 and Giannis isn’t over yet.
