Eagles practice squad shuffle: Tanner Muse returns, Lew Nichols gone
Earlier this week, the Philadelphia Eagles released practice squad tight end Tanner Muse and signed running back Lew Nichols to their practice squad.
On Saturday, the team officially undid those moves by re-signing Muse and cutting Nichols.
Why the swap?
Well, it seems like the Eagles just wanted to have Nichols around this past week for practice purposes.
With Saquon Barkley resting and Kenny Gainwell missing practice due to the combination of a concussion and a knee injury, the team only had three running backs available to take reps: Will Shipley, Tyrion Davis-Price, and Nichols.
Barkley figures to return to practice in New Orleans this week as the Eagles prepare for Super Bowl LIX. It also seems like the team is anticipating Gainwell to return … hence Nichols being deemed expendable.
Practice squad players can be temporarily elevated to the game day roster up to three times in the regular season and an unlimited number of times in the postseason.
