Travis Hunter was invited to the NFL Combine as a defensive back

Top draft pick Travis Hunter has been invited to the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and will compete as a defensive back, per the official NFL Combine invitation list released today.
The Heisman Trophy winner from Colorado had a remarkable season on offense for the Buffaloes, snagging 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. Compared with 2023, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound playmaker nearly doubled his production at the position and tripled his number of touchdowns.
But it will be at defensive back where the rising star is expected to showcase his skills in front of NFL coaches, general managers and player personnel chiefs around the league in Indianapolis. He had four interceptions and 35 tackles in 2024 en route to his best season yet, and lifting the Buffaloes to their best record in many years, including an appearance in the Alamo Bowl against BYU.
Bryan’s Take: Cornerback is Hunter’s better positional fit in the pros and is probably where he will shine the most in Indy. This is a wise move from Hunter and his agent, and will be his best chance to boost his already-sky-high draft stock.
