Lakers Fans Trolled Mavericks GM Nico Harrison With 3-Word Chant During Luka Dončić’s Revenge Game

The Luka Dončić trade was one of those “Nexus Moments” that the Marvel movies keep preaching about. For anyone who saw the news, time stood still for a moment as they comprehended the magnitude of the decision, questioned its legitimacy, and then felt reality set in.

Since then, the Dallas Mavericks have been mocked for letting a true generational superstar walk away without a significant enough return. Similar scenes were witnessed on Tuesday night as Dončić and the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Mavericks for the first time since the blockbuster trade.

Mavericks and Lakers Fans Brutally Troll Nico Harrison At Luka Dončić’s First Game Against Dallas

It seemed impossible that a team would trade arguably the best player in the world, coming off a season in which he led them to the NBA Finals. Dončić, at just 25 years old, is one of the NBA’s best scorers, and his accomplishments can barely fit on a single Wikipedia page.

A five-time All-Star and All-NBA First-Team selection, the latter of which is sixth among all active players, Dončić has been one-of-one since he entered the league. His averages rival the likes of LeBron James and Michael Jordan, and he’s one of the few players with an outside chance to reach their level of acclaim.

So, Mavericks fans’ outrage is understandable, and they are making it known to their front office. As Dallas traveled to Los Angeles for their first game against the Lakers since the trade, a Mavericks fan held up a sign about loyalty directly behind general manager Nico Harrison while Dončić was warming up on the court.

The sign had “Loyalty Never Fades Away” written on it, with “Never” crossed out to suggest how Dončić was traded despite his desire to stay in Dallas. For context, those four words are etched into Dirk Nowitzki’s statue outside of the Mavericks’ arena, so the fan had to point out the irony.

Harrison’s explanation of the Dončić trade didn’t do much to help comfort fans. He mentioned that Dončić didn’t add to Dallas’ culture, which may have further angered the already outraged fanbase.

“There are levels to it, and there are people that fit the culture, and there are people that come in and add to the culture. Those are two distinct things, and I believe the people that are coming in are adding to the culture,” he told the Dallas Morning News.

While Mavericks fans are still devastated, Lakers fans love Harrison right about now. They playfully chanted “THANK YOU, NICO” throughout Dončić’s revenge game against his former team.

Dončić got his revenge against the Mavericks, posting a historic stat line in the first half: 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocks. He finished the game with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, three steals, and two blocks and led the Lakers to a 107-99 win, which had to feel good.
