Sweden bans WinBet for illegally targeting local players

The Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, has officially banned WinBet NV for unlawfully targeting Swedish players via its website, Superb.bet.
Despite only holding a license in Greece, WinBet offered services in Swedish and allowed transactions in SEK (Swedish Krona), which violated local regulations.
Spelinspektionen’s investigation found that Superb.bet automatically displayed content in Swedish when accessed from Swedish IP addresses. It also permitted Swedish users to register freely, despite lacking a license to operate in the country. These elements met several criteria for illegal targeting under Swedish gambling law, which includes offering local language support and Sweden-specific payment options.
WinBet was given a chance to respond to the allegations but chose not to. As a result, Spelinspektionen issued an immediate ban on the operator.
This isn’t the first time WinBet has faced regulatory scrutiny. In October of the previous year, the Dutch gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit, warned the company for operating without a license across multiple sites, including Galaxyspins.com, Winnercasino1.bet, Superb1.bet, and Doctorspins.com. The Dutch regulator ordered WinBet to cease operations or face a weekly fine of €280,000, up to a cap of €840,000.
In contrast, Spelinspektionen recently cleared three licensed operators—ATG, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, and Lotto Direct—after a compliance review in June. Following closer supervision, the authority found no violations, and all investigations were closed without further action.
