The start of the 2025 NFL season is just 10 days away, but before any team can turn their attention to Week 1, they have to get through cut day, which is coming on Tuesday.

During the preseason, NFL teams are allowed to carry 90 players on their roster, but every team has to trim that down to just 53 players by the cut deadline, which will be coming at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Between now and then, a total of 1,184 players are going to lose their job.

After getting released, a player will hit waivers if they have fewer than four years of service in the league. The waiver order is the same as the 2025 NFL Draft order, so the Tennessee Titans will have first dibs on claiming any player who goes on waivers.

On the other hand, any player with more than four years of experience will officially become a free agent after getting cut, so they won’t be eligible to be claimed.

Cuts won’t be the only thing happening in the NFL over the next 24 hours. There are usually quite a few trades that go down in the hours ahead of the cut day deadline, and if you need proof, just look at the Eagles, who made a total of three trades over the weekend. The reason we see some many trades just before the cut deadline is pretty simple: If a talented player is on the verge of being released, a team will usually call around to see if anyone wants to make a trade before cutting him. By making a deal, they get something in return for a player they were going to cut anyway.

To keep you up to date with all the action, we’ll be keeping tabs on all the latest news, rumors and cuts here in our live blog. We’ve also got a full team-by-team list of every cut that’s been made and you can check that out here

Where you can find the full list of every player who has been cut

If you don’t want to scroll back in this live blog to see all the cuts that have been made so far, i have some good news for you: We made a team-by-team list of all the cuts and you can see that here!

I would suggest bookmarking that link and then heading over there in about 45 minutes when all the cuts have been turned in (The cut deadline is 4 p.m. ET, but some teams take their time turning in their list, which is why it could be awhile before the story is updated with every cut from EVERY team).

Cut down reminder: Waiver claims and practice squad details

With the cut down deadline coming in 15 minutes, here’s a quick reminder of what will come AFTER the cuts.

  • Although each team has to trim their roster down to 53 players, that will not be each team’s final roster. All 32 teams will be allowed to put in a waiver claim for any players who are cut and if they have a successful claim, that player will immediate join their 53-man roster and they’ll have to make a corresponding cut.
  • All 32 teams will also start the process of putting together their practice squad. The practice squad can consist of up to 16 players and six of them can be veterans who have four or more years of experience. That means each team will be able to carry 69 players.

Saints trim their roster down to 53

It’s been a busy day for the Saints, who finally named a starting quarterback for Week 1 (Spencer Rattler won the job over Tyler Shough).

The team also trimmed their roster down to 53. The most notable cuts were probably QB Jake Haener and former Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Here’s the full list:

QB Jake Haener
OL Shane Lemieux
OT Easton Kilty
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Browns have cut their roster down to 53

The Browns have officially trimmed their roster down to 53 players. Two of the most notable cuts were Dustin Hopkins and Diontae Johnson.

Here’s the full list of players who were let go:

K Dustin Hopkins
WR Diontae Johnson
DT Sam Kamara
DE Julian Okwara
RB Trayveon Williams

WR Chase Cota
WR Kaden Davis
S Christopher Edmonds
CB LaMareon James
WR Kisean Johnson
RB Ahmani Marshall
WR Cade McDonald
RB Pierre Strong Jr.
T Kilian Zierer

One other roster note with the Browns is that Deshaun Watson has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He’s not expected to be healthy any time soon as he continues to recover from his Achilles injury, but he’s still on the roster.

Browns making a change at kicker

Dustin Hopkins has been the Browns’ kicker for the past two seasons, but Cleveland will be making a change in 2025. After a disastrous 2024 season that saw Hopkins hit just 66.7% of his field goals, the Browns decided to bring in competition this year in the form of Andre Szmyt.

Szmyt had an impressive preseason that included kicking a 37-yard game-winning field goal to help the Browns beat the Rams 19-17 in Cleveland’s preseason finale. Szmyt, who went undraftedin 2023, has never kicked in a regular-season game.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling walks away with $3 million from Seahawks after getting cut

The Seahawks have decided to cut ties with Marquez Valdes-Scantling, according to ESPN. The former Packers receiver signed a one-year, $4 million contract with Seattle back in March. The deal included $3 million in guaranteed money, so MVS will get to make $3 million from the Seahawks without ever playing a single down.

MVS became expendable after the quick rise of rookie WR Tory Horton, who was selected in the fifth-round this year.

Panthers make final cuts: Carolina is first team to get down to 53 players

Hunter Renfrow’s NFL return will have to wait

After sitting out of the NFL in 2024, Hunter Renfrow was trying to make a return to football this year, but if that’s going to happen, it’s not going to happen in Carolina. Renfrow signed with the Panthers in April, but is no longer with the team after being released, according to ESPN

Renfrow took some time away from football because he was diagnosed with the autoimmune condition ulcerative colitis, which caused him to lose weight and plagued him with fatigue and high fevers. If you want to read that full story on his year away from the NFL, we’ve got that here

The Saints have finally named a starting QB

With just 12 days to go until their opener against the Cardinals, the Saints have finally named a starting QB and Spencer Rattler has won the job.

Coach Kellen Moore was trying to make a decision between Rattler and second-round rookie, Tyler Shough.

“I’m really excited for him,” Moore said of Rattler. “He’s just done an awesome job. He’s just been consistent, he’s made some really good decisions throughout this entire process and his ability to make plays with his arm and his feet has certainly shown up.”

Rattler started six games for the Saints last year and went 0-6.

Deuce Vaughn done in Dallas

The Cowboys running back is on his way after being waived on Tuesday. Vaughn, who was a sixth-round pick in 2023, was a long shot to make the team this year. The Cowboys have a lot of depth at running back right now with Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, Miles Sanders and Phil Mafah all on the roster.
