‘Unbreakable’ Gwen Jorgensen ‘bruised’ after bike crash but vows to bounce back

The 2016 Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen is already back on her bike despite a bad crash on Sunday.
The American star, the winner at Rio 2016, achieved the best result of her comeback to date when fourth at WTCS Yokohama in May.
And she had been looking forward to her next top tier race in Hamburg on 12-13 July but has now revealed a big bump during the build up to that.
‘Form is building’
Writing on Instagram, she explained: “Not exactly the week I planned…
“Sunday: crashed hard.
6 stitches in my lip, 6 in my eyebrow, a few more up top. Bruised face, broken shoe… but the bike survived, so priorities, right? 😅
“Tuesday: jumped back in the saddle for Masters Nationals Road Race and came away with 4th. Not exactly a headline result, but I’ll take it.
“Now? Traveling this weekend to Hamburg for the next WTCS. Face is questionable, form is building, spirit is unbreakable. 🤷♀️😂”
Star-studded line up
The 39-year-old will be part of a stellar field for the Sprint-distance race in Hamburg, which is headed by reigning Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand as well as Georgia Taylor-Brown – the most decorated Olympic female triathlete – who makes her return after a mini break from the sport.
Jorgensen also has a wrong to right after an unlucky race last time out at WTCS Alghero when a flat tyre scuppered her chances.
She is one of four American women on the provisional start list, with Taylor Spivey, Gina Sereno and Erika Ackerlund the others.
