India suffered a major setback ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy as star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury. The BCCI confirmed late Tuesday, February 11, night that Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement in the squad.
Bumrah sustained the injury during the final Test against Australia in Sydney last month and has been unable to regain full fitness in time for the marquee event, which begins on February 19.

“Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement,” the BCCI said in an official statement.

Bumrah’s injury leaves a significant gap in India’s pace attack, with Rana set to make his ICC tournament debut. The 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan, will see India begin their campaign on February 19.
