Modi-Trump meet LIVE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Donald Trump early Friday, around 2:30 am (IST). The bilateral meeting will take place at the White House. The two leaders are expected to discuss defence and trade deals, H1B visa, immigrants issue, innovation and more. This will be PM Modi’s first meeting with Trump after the latter assumed office in January 20 this year.

Modi-Trump meet: What to expected?

Sources told CNBC-TV18 that the focus of the meet may be on a new US-India defence framework and a possible trade deal by 2025 fall. Meanwhile, a senior trump administration officials told WION news that India and the US have an important partnership in critical technologies to ensure free societies are leading the way. “Expect some announcement on that today,” he reportedly said.

Trump’s reciprocal tariffs

Trump’s meet with PM Modi comes soon after he unveiled a roadmap for charging reciprocal tariffs on every country that puts duties on US imports. Trump said he has ‘decided’ to impose reciprocal tariffs, saying US allies were often “worse than our enemies” on trade.

Trump, who took office on Jan. 20, has already announced tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports beginning on March 12, imposed 10% tariffs on goods from China, and imposed a 30-day hold on tariffs on goods from neighboring Canada and Mexico.
