Bronte Fall Releases Intimate “Woman Like Me”

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bronte Fall, aka Teri Bracken, unveils her latest single, “Woman Like Me,” lifted from her long player, Not Done Yet.

Fall shares, “Initially, I wrote this song from a very vulnerable place of feeling unlovable because of all the ways I don’t meet the traditional female expectations pushed upon me by society. That we must ‘settle down’ at a specific time to start a family, give up our careers and lead a purely domestic existence, that we should be the apologetic, pleasing, peacemakers- my song is a push back on that entire narrative.”

Fall’s music career began out of the blue: while working as a door attendant at a venue, she found herself fortuitously booking her first gig. Borrowing her name from her favorite authors, she put together the songs she had written.

As a child, Fall began piano lessons when she was seven years old, followed by violin lessons. Later, she sang and played violin in a rock band while in college. Then she studied classical violin at Berklee, polishing her songwriting craft. In the end, she landed in Nashville.

At the present juncture, she focuses on guitar; however, piano and violin appear in her shows.

A few years ago, a family tragedy resulted in Fall re-directing all her energies to songwriting.

“Woman Like Me” opens on dark, Americana bluesy tones, for some reason vaguely reminiscent of the intro to Def Leppard’s “Too Late For Love,” rolling into a sliding melody with glistening textures. The flow of the harmonics conjures mysterious, haunting surfaces that drift and sway with sumptuous motion.

Fall’s slightly drawling vocals reveal delicious, nuanced timbres, dripping with yearning, shadowy hues, at once prayerful and lonely. Suffused with thick, soulful essence, it’s a bewitching voice that seeps into listeners’ ears, evoking profound emotions.

“Oh, can you love a woman like me? / A woman like me / Oh, can you love a woman like me? / A woman like me / Oh, A woman like me.”

The focal point of “A Woman Like Me” is the memorable voice of Bronte Fall, simultaneously seductive and moving.
