Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cruised to a four-wicket triumph against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday.
Put into bat first, MI scored merely 155/9 as the home side spun a web around them, with Noor Ahmad starring, courtesy of his four-wicket haul.
Khaleel Ahmed bagged three dismissals, whereas Nathan Ellis and Ravichandran Ashwin picked a wicket each. Stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 29 runs, whereas Tilak Varma was the top-scorer, thanks to his 31-run knock.
Deepak Chahar, returning to his old hunting ground, produced an impactful cameo of 28 runs, which came in merely 15 deliveries on the back of a couple of fours and sixes each.
CSK got off to a strong start in the run chase, despite Rahul Tripathi’s early dismissal to Chahar. As Rachin dropped anchor, Ruturaj Gaikwad took the onus to power an impactful start, hammering 53 runs off 26 deliveries with the help of six fours and three maximums.
MI pulled off a trump card in the name of Vignesh Puthur though – a left-arm leg-spinner from Kerala, who is yet to play a match at the senior level for his state team.
Vignesh, 23, gave the ball ample flight, deceiving the trio of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda into pulling off big shots and getting caught at the deep end of the field.
However, Rachin remained composed, staying unbeaten till the end, getting to 65 runs off 45 deliveries and sealing the win with a six over Mitchell Santner in the final over. CSK have now won six out of their last seven games against MI in the IPL, including four on the bounce including this encounter.
