Sharma, 37, bagged his first International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy as a skipper by pioneering the Men in Blue to win the recently held T20 World Cup 2024 that was co-hosted by the United States of America (USA) and West Indies.
Rohit took over as the Indian captain in late 2021, after Virat Kohli chose to step down from leadership responsibilities. He had middling success initially, with the Men in Blue losing the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in quick succession in 2022. However, they went on to lift the Asia Cup the next year.
India produced a dream run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, emerging victorious in 10 matches in a row before going down bad against Australia in the summit clash in Ahmedabad.
He managed to get the team back up in the T20 World Cup though, making India the first team to become the champion in the competition’s history without losing a single game. In Test matches, Rohit has led India to series wins against Australia and England at home.
