DeFi platform Uniswap has disclosed that it’s planning to launch its fourth iteration, Uniswap V4, in 2025 after missing its Q3 2024 deadline. In a post on X, Uniswap Labs teased the launch of the new platform using a unicode image with “V4 is coming soon” caption, without revealing the actual dates of the launch. Uniswap Labs has been working on the new platform since late 2023 with Uniswap’s founder saying the new platform will have “improved architecture and gas savings,” something that’s expected to enhance the DEX’s performance.
Uniswap V4 Will Solve V3 Shortcomings
According to Uniswap Labs, V4 is part of “a few other surprises” scheduled for release this year, adding that 2025 will be “a very pink year.” In a post outlining its vision for the new platform, Uniswap Labs disclosed that the current version, V3, suffers from several shortcomings.

In V3, for example, each liquidity pool uses its own contract making “multi-pool swap more expensive.” V4 solves this issue by powering all pools from one contract which Uniswap estimates to save roughly 99% in gas costs.
Uniswap V4 will also include hooks that will help customize the interaction between different features like fees, swaps, and pools. Hooks also allow developers to create platforms that interact with V4 smart contracts.
Some hooks like the KYC hook have in the past divided the DeFi community with some saying that they can be used by regulators to monitor the operations of Uniswap users. The launch of V4 comes barely three months after Uniswap launched Unichain testnet, a blockchain scaling network.
Unichan Already Attracting Users
According to Uniswap Labs, there are 5.4 million smart contracts powered by the testnet, 58.8 million testnet transactions, and over 30 infrastructure partners. Uniswap plans to launch the Unichain mainnet this year.

With the Unichain mainnet expected to be launched this year, it’s to be seen whether Uniswap V4 will be among the first projects on the scaling network.
