Wrestler Vinesh Phogat who disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 Wrestling final event in the 50kg category just head of the final on August 7 for being overweight by 100 grams has appealed against her disqualification with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). The CAS is the apex body designated to address any legal challenges that athletes encounter.
The move from the Indian wrestler comes after she was not allowed to compete in the finals for missing her weigh in by 100 grams. Vinesh, who had won the semi-final via a 5-0 margin is the first Indian woman wrestler to qualify for the final in the Olympics. According to Wion, Vinesh has requested that she be given the silver medal. CAS has asked until August 8 to give its final verdict. If CAS rules in Vinesh’s favour, IOC will have to award a joint silver medal to Vinesh. CNBC-TV18.com couldn’t independently confirm the report as of August 8, 12.26 am IST.
Meanwhile, the Indian wrestler was hospitalised after her weigh in as she sufferred from dehydration.

According to the Olympics website, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is an independent institution established to facilitate settlement of sports-related disputes through arbitration or mediation. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and has courts in New York City and Sydney, with temporary courts set up in Olympic host cities.

CAS is independent of any sports organisation and operates under the administrative and financial authority of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS). CAS resolves legal disputes in the field of sport through arbitration, pronouncing arbitral awards that have the same enforceability as judgments of ordinary courts.
