Dynasty Warriors: Origins Helps Push Koei Tecmo Profit to Record High

Atelier Yumia, too

Dynasty Warriors Origins Koei Tecmo

It’s apparently been a really strong year for Koei Tecmo, as the Japanese publisher’s latest financial results reveal record profits.

By and large, it sounds like the company’s self-published video games have played a huge part in boosting the numbers. While sales were actually down 1.7% year-on-year, the strength of Koei Tecmo’s own releases pushed profit and income to new heights.

The likes of Dynasty Warriors: Origins and Atelier Yumia did very well for themselves both critically and commercially, while smaller budget projects such as the remade Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and Warriors: Abyss appear to have performed admirably.

In terms of actual figures, the publisher’s net profit saw a year-on-year increase of 11.4%, hitting a considerable 36.63 billion yen (roughly $250 million).

Given this newfound level of success, the company is now forecasting reduced profits in fiscal year 2026 — which perhaps tells us something about the publisher’s release schedule over the next 12 months or so.

Still, it’s nice to see an outfit like Koei Tecmo getting things right — especially since it’s now putting so much effort into its gaming business.

Robert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
