Devon fills us in on “Blame It”:

I never got a chance to stand up for myself and the hurt that I experienced in a situation like this. It’s easy to say now; I should’ve known better, but there are two sides to every breakup, and this song is about taking accountability for irreparable emotional damage.

“Blame It” blends your signature country-pop sound with heartfelt storytelling. What inspired the lyrics and message behind this single?

“Blame It” was inspired by a relationship I was in, in the past. I thought I was in the best relationship of my life, but as we continued getting to know each other, I realized that drinking/substance abuse was taking over. I had taken this idea to a few of my friends and they helped me transform this song into a story I was really living through.

You’ve built a loyal following on TikTok and opened for major artists like Joe Nichols and Maddie & Tae. How has your journey from Pennsylvania to Nashville shaped your music and career so far?

I started playing out in Pennsylvania when I was 16 years old. When I was in high school, I spent my weekends playing at local venues to make money. I slowly started to get my foot in the door and understand small pieces of the business. When it was time for college, COVID happened, and I decided against a university and dove right into the music business in Nashville. The experiences I had in Pennsylvania really helped me understand the business, connect with people, and showed me how I could continue making a living doing what I love!

With the release of “Blame It,” what do you hope listeners take away from this song, and how does it reflect where you’re headed as an artist?

‘Blame It’ is definitely a 180 from other songs and projects I’ve done before. I think this song reflects who I want to be as an artist. I want to be able to share my experiences of situations that people have really lived through and for the audience to connect with these issues, even if they are hard to talk about. I want people to hear this song and know they are not alone in their feelings. Even if they think it’s “too late” to walk away from a relationship they know is not good for them.. it’s not.
