Tyla postpones her world tour due to injury, forcing her to cancel her Coachella appearance in April. That spells more bad news for the festival as it fails to draw the hype of its previous years.

South African sensation Tyla took to Instagram to announce the unfortunate news that because of a worsening injury, she would postpone her world tour that was scheduled to kick off March 21. As a result, she also canceled her spot at Coachella in April — the most recent bad news for the California festival.

“For the past year, I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened,” wrote Tyla. “I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonizing, as has the severity of the situation.”

In her post, Tyla explained she is “absolutely heartbroken” to not be able to proceed as scheduled with her tour, but that “in consulting with medical professionals it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety.”

Ticket holders for Tyla’s North American tour dates will be automatically refunded, while providers for international dates will reach out to ticket holders soon with options. Meanwhile, though tickets for Weekend One of Coachella are sold out, tickets for Coachella’s second weekend are still available.

The Johannesburg singer assured her fans, called the Tygers, that her team is “working diligently on a spectacular show” once she’s recovered, and hopes to return to the stage this summer.

The 22-year-old, who signed to Epic Records in 2021, drops her debut self-titled LP on March 22, featuring her hit single “Water.” That track rapidly propelled her to fame in North America, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs and Hip Hop/R&B charts. She was the winner of the inaugural Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
