  1. I loved the performance of Billy Kametz as Ferdinand von Aegir in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. But I’m not sure if it’s a case of “don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone” because it was three roles I was exposed to after his death from cancer last year – the Three Hopes Ferdinand, a major spoiler in the second AI: The Somnium Files, and The Counselor in Persona 5 Royal – that clinched him as a favorite.

I guess my favorite living one is Ian Sinclair – he doesn’t do a lot of game work, but he did Fire Emblem villains (Berkut in Shadows of Valentia) and heroes (Bunet in Engage) in equal quality, as well as Toval in Trails of Cold Steel.

  2. I agree with Shaymin on Ian Sinclair’s excellent performance as Berkut (and I suppose Bunet, but I didn’t use him, so I didn’t hear his voice much).

If I had to pick just one character, it would probably be Johnny Yong Bosch as both Emil and Ratatosk Mode Emil in Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World. Not only does he do an excellent job at sounding very different for both versions of Emil, but Emil’s character development also comes across strongly in Bosch’s acting. Emil is very timid and soft-spoken at the beginning of the game, but as Emil grows as a character, his voice reflects that, sounding more sure of himself and determined over time. Laura Bailey as Marta would be a very close second, but I can’t help but put the two together, heh.

  3. I’ll throw in a western RPG: Doug Cockle as Geralt of Rivia is excellent, equally grim, wry or tender as the script requires. And I have to give a shout out to Cary Elwes in The Bard’s Tale ARPG – great casting, especially alongside Tony Jay as the snarky narrator.
