Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Makes Major Move in Name Change Case
Angelina Jolie’s Daughter Shiloh Takes Out Ad to Drop “Pitt”
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is forging ahead in her case to legally change her name.
More than a month after submitting paperwork to drop the “Pitt” in her hyphenated surname, the 18-year-old placed a newspaper ad in the Los Angeles Times announcing her intentions to move forward with her new moniker, according to TMZ.
The notice stated that she will change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, per the outlet.
In California, it is required by law to broadcast a name change request in the local newspaper. As the website for the state’s courts noted, “You must publish in a newspaper of general circulation that publishes legal notices in the county where you file your case.”
Shiloh filed her request on May 27, her 18th birthday.
A source close to the matter previously told E! News that Shiloh—the fourth oldest of Angelina and Brad Pitt’s other kids Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, and Zahara, 19, as well as twins Vivienne and Knox, 15—is personally funding the case by hiring her own lawyer.
But she isn’t the only one in the family who prefers a shorter surname. In November, Zahara omitted Pitt’s last name from her moniker when she introduced herself at a Spelman College sorority initiation ceremony.

More recently, Vivienne opted to be credited with only Angelina’s last name in the playbill for the Broadway musical The Outsiders, which she worked on alongside her mom.
For what it’s worth, Angelina and Brad have also deviated from their birth names. As performers, the Girl, Interrupted actress dropped her father Jon Voight‘s surname in favor of her middle name, while the Fight Club alum was born William Bradley Pitt before switching to a stage name.
