Singer Ingrid Andress roasted for ‘painful’ national anthem performance at MLB Home Run Derby: ‘Star Strangled Banner’

Not music to their ears.

Ingrid Andress faced widespread criticism for her now-viral performance of the national anthem ahead of the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, on Monday night.

The country singer struggled with her pitch as she delivered a shaky a cappella rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” which was described as “painful” on social media.

Several players on the field, including Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm, could be seen attempting to hide their laughter as the musician completely missed the notes.

Others compared Andress’ performance to Fergie’s ill-received national anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game and Roseanne Barr’s infamous rendition at a San Diego Padres game in 1990.

“Fergie watching Ingrid Andress claim her crown for worst national anthem of all time,” one user wrote.

“On a lighter note Ingrid Andress makes Roseanne Barr look like Andrea Bocelli! @AndreaBocelli @therealroseanne @MLB,” someone else posted.

“Ingrid Andress is normally a wonderful singer.  So what caused her to boot this one so bad? Somewhere even Roseanne was screaming for earplugs,” another added.

Andress has yet to address the backlash to her national anthem.

Amid the bad reviews, many social media users were surprised to learn that she was a four-time Grammy nominee.

In 2021, the 32-year-old singer-songwriter was nominated for best new artist, best country song for “More Hearts Than Mine” and best country album for “Lady Like.”

She was nominated again in 2023 for “Wishful Drinking,” her duet with Sam Hunt.
