Do you think we’ll get an announcement?
This is a really interesting time for the Halo franchise. A few months ago, it was announced that a major shakeup was taking place at 343 Industries, with the company rebranding to “Halo Studios” and embarking on a series of new games using Unreal Engine 5. It served as the beginning of a new chapter with Halo Infinite slowly starting to wind down.
But now, we’re kind of in limbo as Xbox fans. No dates were provided for when to expect anything new from Halo Studios, and the footage they showed off was clearly just proof-of-concept stuff rather than anything to sink our teeth into. The future looks exciting without a doubt, but we don’t really have a great idea of what to expect.
Of course, that’s where the rumour mill comes in. Last year, it was reported in June that the company appeared to be working on a new remaster of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, and just this week, it was suggested by Rebs Gaming on social media that we could potentially expect at least one Halo-related announcement in 2025:
Another big question this year is what Xbox’s plans are for the history of the franchise. We all know that Microsoft is now making a big third-party push with the PS5 (and probably the Nintendo Switch 2), and again, we’ve heard rumours recently that Halo: The Master Chief Collection might be primed for these consoles at some point soon.
If that happens, will Halo Infinite follow suit? Is there a chance we could see the likes of Halo 5 and even the Halo Wars franchise on there too? If the Switch 2 can be used as a mouse, Halo Wars would probably be a great fit for it!
There are so many unknowns going into 2025 when it comes to Halo, and ultimately it could end up being an extremely busy year for the franchise, or a very quiet one. Perhaps we’ll see something at the Xbox Games Showcase this summer? Or maybe this is just a year to build an audience away from Xbox and PC for the first time ever…
