Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari adapts Yusagi Aneko‘s adventure fantasy light novel of the same title, which originally launched on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in October 2012. Kadokawa began printing the novel with illustrations by Seira Minami the following August. The 22nd volume was released in June 2019. The series has a cumulative 13 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
Kyu Aiya began serializing a manga adaptation in Comic Flapper in February 2014. Kadokawa shipped the 27th volume on February 21.
One Peace Book licensed both the light novel and manga in English in 2015. The 22nd light novel volume went on sale in December 2021, and the 23rd manga volume was released on January 7.
