Tirrell Jamahl Paxton’s “The Moors in Spain” will be displayed at the 2024 Printers Row Lit Fest

The self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet will display the book The Moors in Spain: When Arab and African Muslims Led the World by Tirrell Jamahl Paxton at the 2024 Printers Row Lit Fest (PRLF). The PRLF is the largest free outdoor literary event in the Midwest, attracting an annual crowd of 100,000. This years PRLF will occur on September 7-8, 2024, at Printers Row Park, 620 S Dearborn St (Ida B Wells & Polk), Chicago, Illinois.

The Moors in Spain is fictional but based on facts about how a primarily African army was initially invited to Spain to liberate the people from an oppressive ruler. Unbeknownst to all involved, this event would turn the Iberian Peninsula into the Ornament of the World.

In 711 A.D., the Muslims launched the invasion from present-day Tangier, Morocco. They landed in Europe at a place that would later be known as Al Andalus. These Muslim freedom fighters were called Moors. The Moors presence in Al Andalus began as an invasion and occupation.

Subsequently, the Moors governed a territory that blossomed into a cosmopolitan kingdom or emirate. Their reign was marked by remarkable architecture, advanced science and technology, stunning art and literature, and economic wealth and opulence. All of this, during the Dark Ages in the rest of Europe, stands as a testament to their cultural contributions. Regrettably, the Moors succumbed to the same trappings that had befallen previous empires and civilizations in history.

Tirrell J. Paxton is an attorney and certified public accountant in the Chicago area. He is a lifelong student of history. He has read dozens of books on Moorish history and spent hundreds of hours researching Moorish Spain and Portugal. Furthermore, the author has traveled to Spain twice and visited four cities to observe the remains of Al Andalus and the architecture that remains. He also visited the Almoravids and Almohads Moorish imperial capital in Marrakech, Morocco.

Although the author has studied world history since he was a teenager, he needed to understand North Africa and Islam. The authors interest was piqued when he read The Alchemist. In this beautiful story, the main character resides in Spain, and he states that a group of people crossed the great sea and established a kingdom that lasted over 500 years in Spain. The author knew geography, so the Alchemist had to refer to Africans. However, the author does not know if this story is fictional or factual. Therefore, the author searched Google to ascertain whether the Moors were actual people. To his delight, it was confirmed that the African Moors created kingdoms in Spain and Portugal! The author became obsessed with Moorish history. He read whatever books he could find on the subject. He watched as many YouTube videos on the Moors as possible. After hearing controversial information on the Moors racial and ethnic identities, the author knew he had to travel to Morocco to see the people for himself.
