Who does Benedict Bridgerton marry? It’s a question fans—even those who’ve read the Juila Quinn books—have been wondering since season one. After all, the Netflix show has done a remarkable job of swerving expectations as the character dabbled in relationships with modiste Genevieve Delacroix and, most recently, a throuple with Lady Tilley Arnold and Paul Suarez.
Now that Benedict—and Luke Thompson, who plays him—is set to officially lead Bridgerton season four, it’s fair to question how else the series might change up his story beyond more threesome sex scenes. So, here’s what we know from the books, who has been cast, and every other important detail.
OK, who does Benedict Bridgerton marry?
In the third book of the Bridgerton series, An Offer From a Gentleman, Benedict Bridgerton falls in love with Sophie Beckett.
“An Offer From a Gentleman” by Julia Quinn
It’s essentially a Cinderella story—Benedict meets Sophie at a masquerade ball, and it’s love at first sight for both. What he doesn’t know: She’s the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood and has been working as a servant in her abusive stepmother’s home ever since her father’s death. When the clock strikes midnight, she flees, and Benedict spends years searching for her. Eventually, they’re reunited and…well, you can guess the rest. Sophie Bridgerton has a nice ring to it, no?
What will Bridgerton season 4 be about?
In the announcement that Thompson will lead season four, Netflix teased that Benedict has been “unmasked” as the next suitor—no doubt a nod to the masquerade ball that happens in An Offer From a Gentleman.
Then, on September 11, Netflix revealed that Sophie Beckett will be his love interest…with some changes. The character is now named Sophie Baek, though her story still sounds very similar to the book plot: “Sophie Baek has been forced to spend much of her life working as a maid for the most demanding employer in the ton. But the resourceful Sophie always finds a way to persevere through her circumstances—which will drastically change after she disguises herself to attend Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade ball and meets Benedict Bridgerton.”
Who will play Sophie?
Sophie Baek—and possibly the future Sophie Bridgerton—will be played by Dune: Prophecy and Halo star Yerin Ha.
Of course, now that Benedict has started exploring his sexuality, there’s always the possibility that his love interest may be someone else (or several someones) entirely. “I personally feel like Benedict reads as queer in seasons 1 and 2, and I think a lot of audiences have felt that way as well,” Brownell told Glamour. “In the writers room, we wanted to make sense of that. Benedict is figuring out his place in society…and how he can skirt the rules of society while being true to himself.”
