Sterling K. Brown Leads Paradise for 8 Episodes of Political Thriller and Sci-Fi Murder Mystery
EVERY YEAR, THERE are a couple new shows that come out of the gate swinging. In 2024, Shōgun and Mr. and Mrs. Smith garnered a lot of attention from the jump, and didn’t let up the rest of the year; both were awarded with heaps of praise, including at the Primetime Emmys and the Golden Globes. There are a ton of new shows we’re similarly excited for in 2025, but the very first to catch our (and lots of others’s) attention is Hulu’s Paradise. And if you think you might be interested, you’ll probably be better off watching blind before you have something spoiled.
We say that because Paradise‘s premise is… kind of a loaded gun in and of itself. There are a number of twists within the show’s first episode that help set up what is an unquestionably high-concept premise that will take (probably) multiple seasons of unraveling to truly figure out. And the biggest twist of all, which comes at the end of the show’s first episode, is only a subplot to what would seem to be an overarching conspiracy/mystery at the show’s core.
So, for now, let’s explain what we can. Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown is the show’s lead as a Secret Service agent named Xavier Collins; like every Sterling K. Brown character, he’s smooth, calm, collected, and jacked. In this case, though, he’s leading the protection of the President of the United States, Cal Bradford (James Marsden), who the show tells us in passing is overwhelmingly popular, a billionaire, and a southern progressive. That part doesn’t all the way add up, but the show is fun enough that we can scrunch our brows a little bit and move along.
We’re just going to say from here that a couple mysteries quickly emerge, and it’s clear that a mysterious person referred to only as “Sinatra” (played by Mare of Easttown Emmy winner Julianne Nicholson) is involved. By the middle of the first episode, you’ll be hooked; by the end of the first episode, you’ll probably be wondering what the hell is going on. And that’s by design. Paradise is a high-concept show that’s got great acting, fun mysteries, and isn’t as demanding as some other similar shows on TV.
It’s an easy, but compelling watch, which sometimes is all you really want. Here’s how you can make sure not to miss a single episode of the show’s first season.

When is the next episode of Paradise coming out?
While the Paradise‘s three-episode premiere came out in a staggered way—the first on January 26, followed by the next two on January 28—the show will stick to Tuesday releases from here on out. That means the next episode of Paradise will land on Hulu on Tuesday, February 4th.
How many episodes of Paradise are left?
The first season of Paradise will be 8 episodes long. That means there’s five more weeks—and five more episodes of political thriller/murder mystery/post-apocalyptic sci-fi mash-up—remaining in the show’s run.
