The Regime Will Fill the Succession Void In Your Heart
HBO HAS A serious void to fill now that Succession is finished. Audiences are definitely missing the scheming, well-timed quips, and twists that reigned on HBO for four seasons. While we don’t know quite yet what will draw viewers in the same way, there’s a show with some major potential on the horizon. Or, at least, one that’ll keep us entertained for the time being.
The Regime is written by Will Tracy, who also wrote The Menu, on the staff of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and yes, a few episodes of Succession. The show stars Kate Winslet as a chancellor of a fictional European country. As domestic turmoil unfolds, she struggles to keep control of her professional and personal affairs, and ends up relying on a soldier as her confidant.
We haven’t seen Kate Winslet on American TV screens since Mare of Easttown, where she blew audiences away with her performance as a troubled Philly detective. The Regime will likely be a departure from that character, as from the show’s trailer we can see Winslet playing with the silliness of Selina Meyer in Veep (taking a video meeting while in an ice bath), but with the calculating eye of Succession’s Shiv (plotting for power).
We only have so much information about The Regime, but what we do know sounds exciting. And if Kate Winslet is involved, we know to expect great acting, and therefore, hopefully, an overall good show. To make sure you don’t miss a single episode, here’s when new episodes of The Regime premiere.
