Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey Liked Kissing Each Other in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days—Watch the Video
Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey stole our hearts in the iconic rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Neither can Hudson or McConaughey.
On February 6, the former coworkers paired up for a joint Instagram Live to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the rom-com, taking time to answer fans’ burning questions. One question Hudson has received “all the time” is one on everyone’s mind: What is it like to kiss Matthew McConaughey?
After working with McConaughey in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool’s Gold, Hudson has the unique experience of kissing the heartthrob many, many times. “My whole thing is like, we’re always in weird environments,” she recalled. “It’s never like…there was only one time when we kissed that was like so nice and gentle, in the bathroom.”

Despite how badly fans hoped their onscreen spark was real offscreen, both actors agreed that the possibility of anything more than friends was off the table. “When you’re kissing anyone in a movie, it’s professional,” Hudson said. “We’re actually trying to create something that evokes something in a certain way that might not exactly be the way you would necessarily do it in real life.”
Even if the kiss doesn’t exactly match up to real life, the former costars agreed that the kisses they shared weren’t all bad. “In respect to our now partners, we do kiss nicely,” Hudson said. “It was always a very nice kiss.” Though the answer was to Hudson’s question, McConaughey backed up his former costar: “I would have to agree with you. Absolutely.”
Once upon a time, there were discussions of a sequel and McConaughey was on board. “I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up, you know, teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel. And that was a really good one,” he said in 2020. There hasn’t been any further development on a sequel, but Hudson did recently have a mini reunion with costar Kathryn Hahn in Glass Onion.
