Rays near 3-year extension with Yandy Díaz (source)

5:06 PM UTC
Infielder Yandy Díaz and the Rays are closing in on a three-year, $24 million extension with an option for 2026, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and Juan Toribio. Feinsand was the first to report the potential deal, which has not been confirmed by the team.
Díaz was eligible for arbitration this winter and prior to the 2024 season.
Díaz is coming off a breakout 2022 season, in which he hit .296/.401/.423 with nine homers and career highs in WAR (3.5) and OPS+ (143). He played in both corner spots for the Rays — primarily at third base — and received one ninth-place vote for MVP.
Díaz, 31, has hit .278 with 39 homers in six seasons, the past four with the Rays.
