2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Alex Harkey, OT, Texas State
- Name: Alex Harkey
- School: TXSW
- Position: OT
- Ht/Wt: 6-6, 335
- Class: Senior
Strengths: Run block, instincts, hand use
Weaknesses: Pass protection, balance in space
Summary: Senior. RT starter. Big, tall, strong OT prospect. Above-average run blocker, average in pass protection. As a run blocker he is above average. Displays a quick first step, fires forward nicely to the second level, runs feet on contact and creates vertical push. Has great hand placement and strike timing. Is a very good puller who can find color at the second level. Effective blocker on screens, can move and run. Will sometimes wind up on the ground on his own in space. In pass protection, he is average. Displays great use of hands – has a good initial punch, can press and jolt rushers off track, and spin the barrel v. Spin moves. Very instinctive; can handle twists and stunts. Has a good lateral set and can post back inside. Plays with a wide base; generally, stays anchored but will occasionally get walked back. Struggles against wide edge rushers aligned in a two-point stance. Needs to keep working to the whistle; gave up a sack v. LASW just because he gave up on the play. To his credit, is a very physical player, responds well after a bad play and has good mental toughness.
Projection: Alex is likely a mid-round, low Day 2 or high Day 3 selection. I would like to see him improve more in pass protection to boost his value.
