Republicans Plan to Spend Every Day Till the Election Claiming Joe Biden Is a Doddering Old Fool—And That Trump Has the Body and Mind of a 35-Year-Old

Special counsel Robert Hur’s decision to release a report last week calling Joe Biden an “elderly man with a poor memory” was, quite obviously, the greatest thing to happen to the Republican Party since a government shutdown led to Bill Clinton having a little too much time on his hands. Was Hur’s commentary on Biden’s mental state part of a politically motivated smear job? Possibly! But that doesn’t mean Republicans aren’t going to run with it and basically make it the only thing they talk about from now until the presidential election.

Imagine the GOP’s response to Benghazi, but somehow worse. Axios reports that House Republicans are starting a likely “monthslong” plan to “keep questions about President Biden’s mental state in the spotlight,” which will involve hearings and “possibly even subpoenas for documents and recordings.”

Sources close to House GOP leaders are blunt that they don’t think it even matters what they find. These sources think that any fight will make the White House look bad—and keep a huge Biden vulnerability in the headlines.

Three House committee chairs wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland last evening to demand a transcript—plus any recordings—of Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur…. Next, we’re told, House Republicans plan to seek testimony from Hur—and would ask him both about how Biden’s storage of sensitive documents could have hurt national security, and about the president’s mental acuity in the interview.

According to Axios, sources believe “Hur’s testimony could be blockbuster,” which is what Republicans want, as this is not about Biden’s memory but political theater. Hur is expected to be called to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, at which time “someone might ask him if Biden is unfit to lead,” a leadership source told Axios. Given the ease with which the special counsel cast aspersions on the president’s memory, it wouldn’t be at all surprising for him to suggest that Biden is not, in fact, fit to lead—though even if he says something more benign, the whole thing could obviously be incredibly damaging to Biden, particularly when it comes to his reelection chances.

Speaking of the election, Republicans do not appear to have plans to discuss the many things that make one Donald Trump unfit to lead the country, which include:

Anyway, get ready for Republicans to spend the next 265 days claiming that Biden belongs in a nursing home, and Trump at a body-building contest for young hot geniuses.
