Carlos Narvaez hits his teammate with a flying bat in scary moment

Boston Red Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez produced a very frightening scene during Wednesday’s playoff game.

The Red Sox met the rival New York Yankees on Wednesday for Game 2 of their AL Wild Card series at Yankee Stadium in New York, N.Y. With Boston taking Game 1, New York had to win in order to extend their season.

During the top of the eighth inning, Narvaez was up to bat against Yankees reliever Devin Williams. On a 2-2 offering from Williams, Narvaez swung and missed for an inning-ending strikeout. He also let go of his bat on the swing, and the bat went flying towards the on-deck circle.

Standing in the on-deck circle was Boston outfielder Nate Eaton. Narvaez’s bat ended up hitting Eaton in what appeared to be the back and elbow, knocking Eaton to the floor.

Check out a couple of different angles of the scary incident.

Eaton, who was in visible pain, stayed in the game defensively for the bottom of the eighth inning. But he seemed to be a bit out of it and took a bad route to an Austin Wells hit that ended up breaking the 3-3 tie. Eaton then exited the game in the ninth inning and was pinch hit for by Wilyer Abreu.
