Eagles issue estimated injury report ahead of Giants game

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 18 home game against the New York Giants.

Note that this report is an estimation because the team held a walkthrough in lieu of a normal practice.

The Eagles listed 10 players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Mekhi Becton, Landon Dickerson, Lane Johnson, Darius Slay, and Josh Sweat.

Hurts is still in the concussion protocol. He won’t be playing this weekend but it’d still be nice to see him get at least one limited practice in, which would indicate he’s making progress towards being cleared.

Pickett is dealing with his ribs injury. No need to have him play through pain this weekend. Tanner McKee figures to start with Ian Book serving as the backup. Perhaps they’ll keep Pickett as the emergency third quarterback in the unlikely event that McKee and Book both get hurt, he can come in and hand the ball off.

Brown is listed with “knee/rest” and DeVonta is listed with “wrist/rest.” They could play if they needed to play … which they don’t. Good opportunity to rest them before the first playoff game.

Barkley (who won’t be allowed to chase the NFL rushing record), Becton, Dickerson, Johnson, Slay, and Sweat were all listed with “rest” designations. They likely won’t play this weekend.

The Eagles listed 10 players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Will Shipley, Zack Baun, Reed Blankenship, Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Cam Jurgens, Jordan Mailata, Quinyon Mitchell, and Nolan Smith.

After missing Week 17 due to a concussion, Shipley is making progress on returning to the field. He might be able to play against the Giants. Would be a good opportunity for him to finally get some extended reps.

Baun, Blankenship, Carter, DeJean, CJGJ, Jurgens, Mailata, Mitchell, and Smith were all listed with “rest” designations. Whereas a number of players listed under DNP won’t even dress for the game, some of these players might suit up but likely won’t play.

The Eagles listed three players under FULL PARTICIPATION: Dallas Goedert, Nakobe Dean, and Bryce Huff.

Update: The Eagles updated their injury report to have Goedert listed as full participant in practice. The team opened his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve earlier on Wednesday. He probably won’t play against the Giants but he’ll be ready to start in the playoffs.

Dean missed Week 17 due to an abdomen injury. He likely won’t play in Week 18 but it’s good to see he could if he needed to do so. Dean figures to be ready for the Eagles’ first playoff game.

Huff got banged up in Week 17 but apparently it’s nothing that’ll prevent him from being able to play. Good news.

[Editor’s note — Include me on the injury report: I’ve been really, really sick since late Sunday night. Not very fun at all. Apologies for the lack of site content this week from my end. Hoping to be back in full force ASAP. Appreciate your patience and understanding.]
