The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two transactions on Thursday. Here’s an overview:
- TE C.J. Uzomah was signed to the practice squad.
- S Caden Sterns was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
The Eagles originally signed Uzomah in April. There was thought he’d strongly contend for a backup tight end spot behind Dallas Goedert, either as TE2 or TE3.
But Uzomah struggled as both a pass-catcher and blocker during offseason practices and preseason games. And so it was no surprise when the team released him in August.
It’s curious that the Eagles thought Uzomah was worth bringing back. They already have Goedert, Jack Stoll, and Grant Calcaterra on the active roster in addition to E.J. Jenkins on the practice squad. Apparently they wanted a fifth tight end.
CADEN STERNS
Sterns was cut to make room for Uzomah.
The 24-year-old safety continues to bounce on and off the team. Here’s a look at the transactions he’s been involved in since originally joining the Eagles.
- August 11, 2024: The Eagles signed Caden Sterns.
- August 27, 2024: The Eagles waived Caden Sterns.
- August 28, 2024: The Eagles signed Caden Sterns to the practice squad.
- September 3, 2024: The Eagles released Caden Sterns.
- September 11, 2024: The Eagles signed Caden Sterns to the practice squad.
- September 12, 2024: The Eagles released Caden Sterns.
- September 18, 2024: The Eagles signed Caden Sterns to the practice squad.
- October 10, 2024: The Eagles released Caden Sterns.
It won’t be surprising if/when he re-joins the practice squad again in the near future.
