Helldivers 2 arrived, and it quickly became one of the hottest titles out there. I have shown you how the Helldivers 2 weapon upgrades work, but what I want to talk about in this article is the difficulty levels. A lot of users want to know more about the Helldivers 2 difficulty levels, so let’s learn how they work and what to expect.

Helldivers 2 Difficulty Levels – Overview

Although I expect there might be changes in the future, for now, the Helldivers 2 Difficulty levels are 9 in total. Of course, the first ones are easy and allow you to get an idea of how the game feels. Those of you, however, who want a challenge will probably be more interested in the more advanced option.

Something that I found interesting about the Helldivers 2 levels is that you must complete one Operation on the level you’ve chosen before you can unlock the next one. In other words, you can’t start from the highest Helldivers 2 difficulty level.

Speaking of the devil, here are all Helldivers 2 difficulty levels:

• Trivial
• Easy
• Medium
• Challenging
• Hard
• Extreme
• Suicide Mission
• Impossible
• Helldive

What happens with each Helldivers 2 Difficulty Level?

A lot of people think that each difficulty level in Helldivers 2 will increase the enemy’s HP and damage. However, my observation is that this is not the case. Instead, the different Helldivers 2 difficulty levels will increase the types of enemies you are facing and their number. In other words, you will face more enemies that are harder to bring down. 

While it’s true that the Operations work the same no matter the difficulty, the harder ones will reward you with more things. Furthermore, I have noticed that the liberation process is also faster when using a higher Helldivers 2 difficulty.

How to change the Helldivers2 Difficulty Levels?

To change the difficulty level in Helldivers 2, you have to:

• Go to the War Table
• Press Q and E or L1 and R1 if you are using a controller.

Pressing these keys will show you the current difficulty level, and you can choose another one (if it is available).

When it comes down to the faction difficulty, I feel like Terminid is easier when compared to options such as Automation. 

Helldivers 2 Difficulty Levels – How to Unlock them

After we’ve learned about the Helldivers 2 Difficulty levels and how to change them, I also want to show you how to unlock them. Needless to say, Trivial will be the default option because it’s available as soon as you start playing. As mentioned, you will need to complete a given mission on one difficulty before the next one becomes available. At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 does not allow you to skip difficulty levels, so you can’t go to Helldive before completing the mission to Impossible, for example.
