IRONMAN Champion prepared to push the limits in search of more glory this season
Following a brilliant season in 2023, where he won multiple titles and finished the season as PTO World #5, Belgian Pieter Heemeryck has his sights set on more glory this season.
The 34-year-old, who is set to race the T100 Triathlon World Tour alongside the best in the world in 2024, says that his high position in the rankings simply motivates him to strive for better.
Speaking with TRI247, Heemeryck talked about the highs and lows during his ten year career in the sport and why he is now more driven than ever to reach his full potential.
“There have been moments of doubt and contemplation”
Having been open about almost leaving the sport before a sixth place finish at the PTO Tour Canadian Open in 2022, Heemeryck said that last season’s success reminded him of why he has worked so hard to get to this point.
“There have been moments of doubt and contemplation about my future in the sport. However, the success I experienced last year has reinforced my commitment and passion for triathlon.
“This success has not only boosted my confidence but also opened up numerous ways for me to make a living from the sport, which has been a great experience.
“2024 looks crazy with particularly the T100, IRONMAN Pro series, and Challenge World bonus. Really crazy times to be a professional athlete.”
“PTO World #5 is an incredible honour”
Undoubtedly one of the most genial athletes in the sport, Heemeryck’s class shined through when asked about how he felt being ranked the PTO World #5.
“Being ranked PTO World #5 is an incredible honour. While there is undoubtedly some pressure associated with maintaining or improving this ranking in the upcoming season, I see it as a motivating factor.
“This ranking serves as a reminder of what I am capable of achieving and fuels my desire to push my limits further in the upcoming season.”
Having now established himself as one of the best in long course triathlon, a determined and driven Heemeryck will definitely be one athlete to watch out for as the 2024 season draws closer.
