The Mets appear to have added an interesting piece to their bullpen, agreeing to a deal with righty Shintaro Fujinami, a source told MLB.com beat reporter Anthony DiComo. The team has not commented on the deal, which was originally reported by MLB Network insider Jon Heyman and is said to be worth $3.35 million for one year, with incentives potentially tacking on $850,000.
Fujinami, who was a rookie in 2023 after spending 10 seasons with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball, began his season with the A’s. He struggled as a starter before quickly moving to the bullpen, where his fortunes improved. Fujinami was traded to the Orioles in a Deadline deal; he posted a 4.85 ERA in Baltimore with 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 29 2/3 innings.
