Mets agree to deal with hard-throwing reliever Fujinami (source)

The Mets appear to have added an interesting piece to their bullpen, agreeing to a deal with righty Shintaro Fujinami, a source told beat reporter Anthony DiComo. The team has not commented on the deal, which was originally reported by MLB Network insider Jon Heyman and is said to be worth $3.35 million for one year, with incentives potentially tacking on $850,000.

Fujinami, who was a rookie in 2023 after spending 10 seasons with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball, began his season with the A’s. He struggled as a starter before quickly moving to the bullpen, where his fortunes improved. Fujinami was traded to the Orioles in a Deadline deal; he posted a 4.85 ERA in Baltimore with 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 29 2/3 innings.
