It looks like Markelle Fultz’s time in Orlando could potentially be coming to an end very soon.
NBA insider Mark Stein reported that the Orlando Magic were exploring Fultz’s trade market ahead of the trade deadline.
“Along with Wendell Carter Jr., whose availability was disclosed here last week, Orlando is said to be exploring the trade market for guard Markelle Fultz, who is playing on a $17 million expiring contract,” Stein wrote.
Fultz has had limited action this season as he missed 27 games with a knee injury. He has averaged eight points, 3.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds in eight games this season and is notably entering the final year of his contract.
With Fultz set to hit free agency following the season, Orlando could look to get some value while also clearing some cap space in order to grab another player. The Magic currently sits at 21-18 and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
While Fultz has struggled with injuries in his career he has shown an ability to be effective. This is highlighted by a 2022-23 campaign where he averaged 14 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 60 games. If healthy, the former No. 1 pick could be a solid addition to a team looking for guard depth.
