For the first time since 2015, the New York Mets have reached the National League Championship Series.

It’s the deepest postseason run star first baseman Pete Alonso has experienced as his only other playoff showing ended in the wild-card series in 2022. After the divisional series-clinching win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, the Polar Bear was ecstatic.

“This is what you work all offseason for,” Alonso said. “This is what spring training and the regular season’s all about. This is euphoric.”

Alonso, who has watched every championship series from home so far in his career, said winning a playoff series is one of the best feelings he’s had in the majors.

“This is all-time,” he said. “Wow. All-time.”

Alonso has been outstanding in the postseason, recording three home runs, six RBI and five runs. He had a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to help the Mets win a series-clinching game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild card.

After taking down the team with the second-best record in the majors in the divisional series, New York will now have a tough challenge standing in its way to reach the World Series. The Mets will face the winner of the series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, two teams playing their best baseball when it matters most.

The Mets have had a magical postseason so far, and Alonso will hope to experience more euphoric feelings moving forward.
