Pirelli has announced that it will supply colourful special edition podium caps at 14 of the 24 2025 Formula 1 grands prix – a big departure from its previous design successful drivers would wear in the post-race celebration ceremony.
Historically since it became F1’s sole tyre supplier in 2011, the top three drivers in each race have been handed black Pirelli branded caps as part of the long-standing tradition for the podium scenes.
Pirelli has departed from the norm on several notable exceptions – such as handing race winner, runner-up and third place finisher Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso branded cowboy hats at the first United States Grand Prix to be held at Austin in 2012.
Last year in Sao Paulo, winner Max Verstappen and podium finishers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly received yellow hats inspired by the country’s colours, as well as the helmet used most famously by Brazilian Ayrton Senna.
This approach has been incorporated with the new designs Pirelli is producing in collaboration with designer Denis Dekovi – starting with this weekend’s 2025 season opener in Melbourne.

The top three finishers in the Australian Grand Prix will receive green and cold podium caps, with red and gold and blue and gold caps to be used at the following races in China and Japan.
“Dekovic pays homage to the traditions and cultural identity of the country hosting the grand prix through the use of colour and materials,” read a Pirelli statement.
“With over 30 years experience in the world of sportswear, Dekovic brings his vision to the table, with exclusive pieces that embody performance, precision and prestige, reflecting Pirelli’s quest for excellence both on and off the track.”
Fans can buy their own versions of the hats ahead of the new season starting, with a UK price of £65. This is considerably more than the price for headwear produced by teams and the F1 organisation itself.
