Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson leaves Eagles practice with injury

PHILADELPHIA — A troubling scene transpired with only minutes remaining in Sunday evening practice at Lincoln Financial Field, as Philadelphia Eagles starting left guard Landon Dickerson appeared to go down with a leg injury.

Dickerson was down on the field as trainers examined his right leg. Starting left tackle Jordan Mailata helped Dickerson up. Dickerson put one arm around Mailata, another around a trainer and limped toward the sideline.

Dom DiSandro, the team’s security chief, took over for Mailata, who followed as Dickerson reached the sideline. The two linemen have played four seasons together side by side. Dickerson left the field on a cart. Mailata returned to the field, shaking his head.

The extent of Sunday’s injury is not yet known, but the difficulty associated with potentially playing without the three-time Pro Bowler for any amount of time can’t be overstated.

The offensive line is the stronghold for the Eagles. It is the symbolic structure of the organization’s stability. It is the source of the Eagles’ greatest resources. Four of their five starters are playing on contract extensions. Dickerson signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension in March 2024. Dickerson is a tough player who played through a knee injury during the latter portion of the 2024 season.

The Eagles acquired more depth behind Dickerson during the offseason. Backup Brett Toth spent the 2024 season on the 53-man roster but did not see game action. Free agent signee Matt Pryor started in 15 games for the Chicago Bears last season. Trevor Keegan, a 2024 fifth-round pick, is also among those who could play guard. The Eagles acquired Kenyon Green in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade, but Green, a 2022 first-round pick, has missed two practices with a shoulder injury.
