Answer: Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison. That, of course, is if Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty isn’t remotely available. Morrison can start right away in the NFL and should be available to Minnesota in the 20s. He’ll be in action on Thursday night against Penn State, so check him out. He blends team need and best player available, at least from a January viewpoint in the draft cycle. Heading into 2025, the Vikings have only Mekhi Blackmon, Dwight McGlothern, and NaJee Thompson under contract at corner. Yikes. Q: Who will be the QB2 for Minnesota this week? Nick Mullens or Daniel Jones? Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports Answer: Nobody knows. Probably Mullens. Whether Mullens or Jones would play in the event of a Darnold injury, for example, is unknown. “It’s such a fluid thing here the rest of the way. We’re gonna do whatever we think gives us the best chance to win,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said Thursday when asked if Jones would be the QB2 in the postseason. For the last 18 weeks, Mullens, not Jones, has served as the undisputed QB2. The non-answer from O’Connell is interesting — and evidence that Jones could trot onto the field if Sam Darnold got hurt. The young skipper could’ve easily said, “Come on, people. Mullens is our QB2, and you know that.” But he didn’t. It’s a mystery that probably won’t matter. It’s also worth wondering how long O’Connell would stick with Darnold if he began his incompletion streak again. You know, like the world saw at Ford Field. Q: Which team is Minnesota most likely to face if it beats Los Angeles? Answer: If there are no upsets, the Vikings (with a win) will play the Lions next weekend. However, one win by the Commanders over the Buccaneers or the Packers beating the Eagles would flip that schedule. Minnesota would host the Commanders if Washington and Green Bay won. Think of it this way: the Vikings would avoid the Lions for a week if the Packers win. That’s the ticket. Dustin Baker is a political scientist who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2007.
