Saints meet with Miami QB Cam Ward at the NFL Combine

The interview process is vital to understanding how these prospects think and if they can make it in the NFL. The New Orleans Saints will do their due diligence throughout the combine week, and although the team has hinted at Derek Carr being the starter in 2025, QB still needs to be looked at going into the draft. One of these quarterbacks the team could target, Miami’s Cam Ward, is considered the far and away top QB in the draft. It is likely Ward gets selected before pick 9, but per Nick Underhill, the Saints still met with him yesterday at the NFL Combine.

Don’t really get into reporting on all the meetings, but here’s a notable one …

The Saints met with Cam Ward

This meeting is not a surprising one, and teams tend to meet with the top prospects in the draft, but it does bring up a conversation. The Saints are in striking distance to trade up with the Titans to select Ward with the first pick in the draft. It is extremely unlikely, but if Kellen Moore, the coaching staff, and front office all absolutely love Ward and are certain he will be the next franchise QB, a trade should be on the table.

If Carr is back next season, Ward would be able to sit for a year, develop, and be ready for the 2026 season. He is extremely talent and would have been apart of that group made up of Bo Nix, Michael Penix, and JJ McCarthy in last year’s NFL Draft. Again, this is an extremely unlikely outcome that the Saints get to draft Ward, but with the franchise going into a new direction, it will be something to monitor.
